G’Day, Y’all.
In my fourth decade, this little country mouse picked up sticks and moved from Atlanta to Sydney. Quite a ballsy leap of faith for a Southern Belle who’d never lived outside of the Peach State. I mean, I went BIG when I left home.
We sold the house, the cars, a lifetime’s detritus of so-much-stuff and not only are we fully ensconced in the parlance of ‘zed’ and ‘mate’ and ‘good on ya’, but we have also mastered tipping (you don’t), ‘shouting’ the next round, driving on the left, and that koala bears aren’t really bears (only Americans really call them that, bless their hearts….) I also consider myself bi-lingual in Australian and Southern English, so you’ll notice a ‘hybrid-style’ in the writing as the might-could’s and the fixin-to’s co-mingle unwittingly with the Straya’s and the No Worries’ like the bedmates they are. It’s how my mind works now.
Since that fateful decision was made, we have traveled more widely and seen extraordinary things that many North Americans only dream of. Over the years I’ve given countless advice to North Americans about what to see here in Australia, and to Australians, what to see in North America. Finally, I decided to make it official with this blog. I’m glad you’re here; you’ll find info and inspo for your own trips, and you’ll get a taste of life here in the Lucky Country.
Drop me a line, say hello, and let me know what you’re thinking and where you’re going.
If you’d like to collaborate, I’d love to chat. Simply complete the form and I’ll get back to you very soon.
